I also think impeachment of Bush should happen, even if he's no longer President when it's done. Otherwise we're just inviting the next President to declare himself monarch or "unitary executive" again.
Seriously! what is it gonna take for people to wake the F$%# up and hold these people accountable!?
Bush could probably ride around on national tv on a presidential unicycle impaling babies on spikes and people still wouldn't budge.

Take your pick of reasons, what they say varies from the ignorant ("We don't believe in partisan witch hunts"), to the apathetic ("It wouldn't make a difference at this point anyway"), to the politically expedient ("We don't want to distract from the election with a controversial move").
All of the above forget that the rule of law is supposed to apply to everyone equally, and that the President commits 4 impeachable offenses before breakfast every morning, and crimes that'd be interesting to an international court of law every month or two.
It isn't going to happen before we have a new President. I'm hoping that with a new congress, and a new President, they at least consider some sort of investigation of the crimes of the Bush administration.

Remember impeachment means that Americans would be able to actually make someone countable later on, politicians don't want that as a whole even if it means giving a pass to the Bush administration.
The Democrats are just not as vicious or centered ideologically like the Republicans are, who nearly impeached Clinton over getting his penis sucked off by a intern.
I blame Ford and his pardon to Nixon for setting up this trend.
Politic decisions are sometimes (always ?) way above the common masses comprehension. Of course they lied. In fact, every single governement lies. It can't be done in another way. Just try to explain to a kid that "our president has given the order to our army to bludgeon a whole country in order to save our economy and avoid our country to be an economic wasteland".
I'm not saying that they have to lie, that it was justified, but simply that it has always been like that. There is two distinct worlds : The hills of the powerful and The valley of the masses.
Politicians have to be more careful about getting sucked off.
Implications of impeaching George Bush:
Politicians have to be more careful about starting illegal wars. Bush/Blair hung on TV.
SO that's why it's not going to happen. But I am holding out for a trial in the future. Nazis were still being convicted 40 years after the war.
