Thats real bad, thats really infected, but I wonder how damaging the maggots would be? The infected pimple certainly will cause problems.

I think the medical staff are using the maggots to clean out an existing wound. Lovely little biomachines; they only eat the dead tissue!

Wow! thanks for the explanation, chilaxe.

The article you cite mentions recent use of "maggot therapy" in the US. Considering the newer strains of super-resistant bacterium and even the "flesh eating" varieties, this would seem to be the best and safest course of treatment...though the thought makes my skin crawl.

I looked it up and from what it looks like, they're either not using maggot therapy or they're doing it to the extreme. To me the infection looks like it's an accident because of all the blood that's there, it looks pretty crusty and dry and the amount of maggots seems a bit big.. I watched a video of a guy getting treatment. It didn't look like this at all, it was only a select few maggots. Might be because of the location, or the severity of the wound- could be a big emergency on a low budget? I dunno. Just looks a bit extreme to be on purpose for me. Hopefully it is treatment though.. It's so disgusting to think of those hatching.. *flaps arms all girly like*

He's absolutely right, maggots are used to clear dead flesh so that the surrounding healthy tissue has a chance of surviving.
