Do you have an answer to my question? I was thinking that the right thing to do is reinstate patriot's post, and declare farhard's dead again with the embed yanked out (to prevent it from being accidentally declared notdead). I can promote patriot's back on sunday, but I can't do the second part.

Done. Your post has been discarded, and the threat of ban removed. Sorry if it seems harsh, but the self link rule is one of the foundations of VideoSift. It's extremely effective at preventing spam, financially self-serving posts, and other drive-by posts. Read the posting guidelines to understand what we mean by self linking, and what else is or isn't acceptable (basically, no porn and no snuff).
On the positive side, due to a bug in the system, you now have -1 unsifted videos, which will probably mean you can submit two vids as a probie.

How do I do it? I guess a big part of it is to try to stay on your toes and check everything that crosses your mind for a connection to a video somehow.
In the case of the Tribbles clip it was pure luck: Saw a clip of a little dog on cuteoverload.com with a reference to Tribbles and wondered if the sift has that clip. I was really surprised to find out it did not yet. Then finding the clip and submitting took about 30 seconds.
Could be triggerd by anything though. A news story, somebody on the street that reminds you of an actor, hearing a line from a 20 year old standup act, smelling something that reminds you of childhood, ANYTHING!
